Rui Zhang
Geophysics
Dr. Rui Zhang is Associate Professor in geophysics, holding John E. and Joretta A. Chance Endowed Professorship, at the School of Geosciences, University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Zhang received his PhD in Geophysics in 2010 at University of Houston followed by two Postdoc Fellow experiences at the University of Texas at Austin and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Zhang’s PhD dissertation was working a basis pursuit inversion technique to obtain high resolution seismic reflectivity with incorporation of sparse layer dictionary. The method was later extended to pre-stack and depth domain seismic data successfully. Dr. Zhang’s research interest also convers geophysical application on energy transition, including carbon capture and storage (CCS), Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS), Hydrogen geological storage, and wind farm site characterization. Dr. Zhang is the winner of the Best Paper Award of Interpretation in 2018 and Best Poster Paper Presented at the Annual Meeting in 2020.
